IIM Trichy has released IIM CAP 2022 Result on May 12, 2022 as already predicted by MBAUniverse.com. Each of the nine CAP participating IIMs including IIM Raipur, Ranchi, Kashipur, Trichy, Udaipur and four baby IIMs as listed below, have released their final admission offer to the selected candidates as per their individual admission policy on their respective website. If you are selected, you need to send the acceptance offer and pay the requisite admission acceptance fee by the stipulated date.  A total number of 13891 candidates participated in IIM CAP 2022 conducted by IIM Tiruchirappalli.

Dr. Prashant Gupta, IIM CAP 2022 coordinator and faculty at IIM Trichy had confirmed to MBAUniverse.com, “The result may be declared between the last week of April and the second week of May 2022.” Accordingly the CAP 2022 result has been released on May 12.

Chances of selection in 9 new and baby IIMs have improved for MBA 2022-24 batch as not only the number of candidates who actually participated in Personal Interview round through Common Admission Process (CAP) 2022 reduced to 13891 for more than 1600 seats but the CAT 2021 cut off to shortlist the candidates for CAP 2022 was also reduced to 92 percentile as compared to 93 percentile last year.

For MBA admission 2022 in 9 new & baby IIMs, the three week long common PI round that began on Feb 14 in Online mode, closed on March 12, 2022 after participation by 13891 candidates in the online process.

The CAP 2022 was conducted by IIM Tiruchirappalli on behalf of 9 new and baby IIMs that participated in the Common Admission Process. However, CAP Coordinating IIM is responsible only for shortlisting of candidates for Personal Interview (PI) process and conducting interviews of all the candidates and after the due verification and checking, the personal  interview scores are sent to all the participating IIMs, who use this PI score in finalizing their respective merit list to make final admission offer. Dr Prashant clarifies further, “Co-ordinating IIM has no role in the final selection of the candidate in respective participating IIMs.”

The registration process for Common Admission Process (CAP) was closed on January 31, 2022. Only the shortlisted candidates were sent login id and password through email by CAP 2022 coordinating IIM Tiruchirappalli. These candidates could register for CAP round latest by January 31, 2022 at IIM Trichy CAP website http://cap2022iimtrichy.in/. 1. What is CAP 2022?
Common Admission process or CAP 2022 is the final selection round for MBA admission 2022 in new IIMs. CAP 2022 was scheduled from February 14 to March 12, 2022. CAP 2022 was coordinated by IIM Tiruchirappalli. Although CAP used to have two main components – Personal Interview (PI) and Writing Ability Test (WAT), however, in the CAP 2022, WAT was conducted as the PI round was conducted in virtual mode.

CAP 2022 is a single point selection process and is common for all the participating IIMs. Candidates are not required to separately appear in PI-WAT for each of the participating IIMs as the scores of CAP are applicable for all the participating IIMs. Final admission offer to the candidates is released by the IIMs based on the performance in CAP round, CAT score, Academic Profile, diversity, work experience among other parameters. CAP is conducted in prominent cities of India but for admission 2022, it will be conducted online and the candidates can appear in CAP round from their home.

3. How IIMs will Release their Final Merit List after CAP 2022?

  1. Common Cut offs used for PI Round: For admission 2022 in 9 IIMs, all the CAP participating IIMs decided to use common CAT 2021 cut off score of 92 percentile. Sharing the process, Dr Prashant said, “After the CAT results and before shortlisting the candidates for the CAP Process, the common cut-off is finalized by the CAP IIMs (Nine IIMs).  Once it is finalized, the same cut-off is used for the entire admissions process of the respective year.” So cut off was neither increased nor reduced through out the process
  2. Conduct of CAP 2022 in 5 Assessment Areas: After shortlisting of candidates, CAP process began in Feb 2022. There were 5 key assessment areas in IIM CAP round on which candidates were assessed. The PI process was conducted in Virtual mode and there was no Writing Ability Test (WAT) for admission to 9 CAP participating IIMs.  Dr Prashant Gupta, IIM CAP 2022 coordinator and faculty at IIM Trichy shared the important areas of assessment during Personal Interview round and said, “Key points of assessment are generally – Communication Skills, Subject knowledge, General Awareness, Managerial aptitude and Extra & Co-Curricular activities.”

  4. Final Merit List and Admission Offer by IIMs: The merit list for final admission 2022 will be released individually by each of the 9 CAP participating IIMs. However, CAP participating Baby IIMs like IIM Jammu, Sirmaur, Sambalpur, Bodhgaya ask for confirmation of interest before making final admission offer but they will also release the first admission offers without waiting for this confirmation which can be submitted by a stipulated date. Dr Prashant clarifies further, “The first three offers will be declared together (same date) by all the CAP participating IIMs including the baby IIMs.  After that all the participating IIMs will release the rest of the offers based on the vacant seats, individually.”

17. CAP 2022 Centers
CAP 2022 centres are five at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. However, since CAP 2022 was conducted online, candidates could attend the PI round from their home on the designated date which was communicated by the CAP coordinating IIM to the short-listed candidates.

18. CAP 2022 Rules: New IIM Admission Process
Common Admission Process (CAP) 2022 Rules for admission to MBA/PGDM 2022-24 are:

19.  How to know when to participate in CAP 2022?
The shortlisted candidates can check their CAP 2022 dates on website of respective IIMs and will also be informed on their registered mail. The candidates who are not shortlisted by the 9 new IIMs will not be sent further communication.

20.  Coordination process between New and old IIMs
Students shortlisted for some older IIMs might not have to appear for the CAP, as some of the older IIMs will share their Personal Assessment (PA) scores with CAP Coordinating IIM. Those candidates who have been called by more than 1 older IIM will have their scores averaged across the IIMs where they have been interviewed. Finally, the scores of PA Process will be shared with the other IIMs participating in CAP, who will then make their own merit lists according to the normalized scores.

21. New IIMs CAP 2022: Step by Step Process

Step 1: Shortlist by Individual IIMs
Each of the new IIMs will shortlist the candidates for CAP 2022 independent of each other. Candidates are shortlisted at the 1st stage around 10 to 12 times of the intake for MBA admission 2022 by each IIM. It may create the multiplicity of calls for the same candidate if he/she meets the shortlisting criteria of many IIMs.

Step 2: Each IIM sends shortlist to CAP 2022 Coordinator IIM
Each CAP participating IIM forwards its list of shortlisted candidates to the CAP 2022 coordinating IIM.

Step-3: CAP Conducting IIM to create Final List of Shortlisted Candidates for CAP 2022 Calls
CAP coordinating IIM Trichy will combine the list of all participating IIMs and prepare a final list of candidates for CAP 2022 Calls. The IIM will then send out calls to these candidates. More than 20,000 candidates are to get New IIMs CAP 2022 Calls.

Step 4: Candidates to participate in PI Process
CAP 2022 Personal Assessment (PA) round will only have Personal Interview (PI) as Written Abilities Test (WAT) will not be conducted. Also there will be no Group Discussion. A candidate will be asked to appear in CAP through Online mode instead of at one of the 5 CAP Centers New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

Step 5: CAP 2022 Scores to be sent by Coordinating IIM to participating IIMs
Based on the performance of the candidates in the PI round, CAP coordinating IIM will prepare the scores for the CAP Round. This will be sent to all the participating IIMs after CAP round is over.

Step 6: All IIMs to prepare their own Final Admission List
Each participating IIM has its own admission policy. They will provide weightages to CAT scores, CAP scores, and in some cases Applicants Profile, for making final admission offers. It is very much possible that one of the new IIMs may not send you final admission offer while others offer you admission based on your CAT 2021 scores and other parameters.
